Social Insurance

Australia is a world leader in providing social insurances that deliver care and support to individuals and their families who have experienced harm in their daily lives.

Whether through workplace injury, road trauma, victims of crime, medical misadventure or injury in a public place, social insurance schemes enable people to receive the assistance needed to return to work and health or to improve their quality of life.
At Scyne we align with the strong public purpose of Australia's many social insurance schemes. Scyne is a market leader in providing advisory services to the vast majority of schemes across Australia, bringing a multi-disciplinary approach that supports schemes to be financially sustainable for all Australians.
"Our purpose at Scyne is to transform social insurers into high-performing, data-driven organisations by uniting actuarial insights with modern digital capabilities implemented safely and securely – so Social Insurers can deliver faster, fairer, sustainable and more reliable outcomes to injured workers and employers."
Mark Stewart | Social Insurance Lead | 0421 610 597

Our work across the sector has highlighted ongoing challenges and focus areas including:

  • Affordability pressures with rising premium / contribution rates for employers and consumers
  • Changes to scheme design, benefits and legislative frameworks require operational change and training
  • A need to transform legacy technology systems that will enable operational efficiency, reduced risk and improved ability to serve customers
  • Ongoing risk of cyber threats with schemes hosting sensitive data
  • Rising prevalence of psychological injuries including secondary injury and the disproportionate cost of these claims which is putting financial pressure on schemes
  • Opportunities to embrace AI for operational efficiency and predictive analytics applications
  • Alignment of outcomes for schemes and customers across service providers and claims managers / agents

GOVERNANCE AND RISK
MANAGEMENT FOR LARGE

PROGRAMS
Large transformation programs operate in complex environments with multiple stakeholders, delivery streams, vendors and dependencies. Effective governance, risk management, reporting and delivery disciplines are critical to ensure programs stay on track, and to identify early when intervention is required. Having supported and assured major transformation programs across government and public-purpose organisations, Scyne brings practical experience of what works and where programs commonly encounter challenges.
Scyne helps organisations implement Minimum Viable Governance – the smallest set of governance, risk and delivery practices required to provide clear oversight and control without creating unnecessary administrative burden. In practice, this means establishing governance, reporting and risk management approaches that:
  • Enable timely, risk-informed decision-making
  • Provide clear visibility of delivery risks and interdependencies
  • Enable accountability and ownership across the program
  • Support effective oversight for sponsors, executives and boards
